Pic Blanc and the Sarenne

From the bare rock up high to the busy base areas below, Alpe d’Huez sharpens the contrast: at 3,330 m the Pic Blanc deck maps out peaks from La Meije to Mont Blanc, while down in the valley you’re back to ski wax and café chatter. The 1962 cable car rises straight to the old observatory and its panoramic table, with the Sarenne glacier and traces of the Roman route to the pass in sight. Expect a 10°C drop versus 1,800 m and winds that can shift fast.

Then comes the easy part: a Mercedes is ready at your hotel, and your dedicated driver times the cable car, the viewpoint stop, and the skiers’ full Sarenne run (16 km, 1,800 m vertical). While they handle the road, you can slip into Café de l’Etendard for a quick espresso or detour to the Grandes Rousses ice cave; if snow moves in, the schedule flexes. The same driver loops via Clavans to meet the group at Pont de la Sarenne, about 25 minutes below Huez, before a smooth ride back to the lifts or the spa.
