After dusk, the 13th‑century Basilica of Saint Francis presides over the Umbrian plain from roughly 400 meters, and, now and then, a whisper of organ music leaks from the nave. Between Piazza del Comune and the tiny San Francesco Piccolino oratory, lanes empty, olive‑wood smoke mingles with lamb on the grill, and late diners still find a secondi at the hilltop trattorie.
