Back in 1882, engineer Raul Mesnier de Ponsard opened the gravity‑fed water funicular at Bom Jesus—still operating on its original principle and among the last of its kind in Europe. Perched at 381 meters, the sanctuary’s baroque-and-neoclassical complex strings together chapels of the Five Senses and the Virtues along more than 570 steps. From the terraces, Braga spreads toward the Gerês hills on clear days. We take you straight to the upper forecourt, giving you unhurried time to frame those zigzag perspectives, spot the 1629 Via Sacra inscription, and step into Carlos Amarante’s church, completed in 1811.

Your dedicated driver collects you at your Braga hotel in a Mercedes and navigates the narrow Tenões approach. It’s a 15‑minute, 5‑kilometer ride to the top drop‑off, skipping the climb while you explore chapels and the wooded park; the driver meets you later by the lake.
