Lerma, Covarrubias and Santo Domingo de Silos

At 10 am, Lerma’s Plaza Ducal opens like a stage: 6,862 square meters of arcades, the Duke of Lerma’s former palace framing the scene, and the cypresses by San Pedro cutting into the Castilian sky. Court politics under Philip III become tangible here, the hill reshaped in the 17th century to command the Arlanza valley. A short drive away, Covarrubias keeps its 15th‑century timbered houses around the Colegiata de San Cosme y San Damián, while the Romanesque cloister at Santo Domingo de Silos (11th–12th c.) still carries the echo of Benedictine chant.
