Carrara and its marble

The whine of diamond blades, a chalky haze on your shoes, and hard sun striking a cliff of stone: at Colonnata the marble amphitheater gleams like frozen snow. Just 30 minutes from La Spezia, the mountain opens—and the Versilia sea flickers into view.
