At 757 meters, Haut‑Kœnigsbourg surveys the Alsace plain, the Black Forest beyond, and—on crystalline days—the distant Bernese Alps. Rebuilt between 1900 and 1908 by Bodo Ebhardt atop a 12th‑century stronghold, it still shows off powder‑age defenses: angled bastions, gun emplacements, and a continuous wall‑walk. It sits roughly 35 km from Colmar via Kintzheim and Orschwiller, an easy crest‑road approach before you drop back into wine country, perhaps toward Riquewihr with its preserved ramparts and 16th‑century cellars.
Your driver handles the road; you take the time. Collected at your Colmar hotel in a Mercedes, you reach the castle via the D159, while we stand by during your self‑guided visit. The car remains at disposal for a photo stop at the Corne lookout, then a scheduled tasting in Ribeauvillé as we manage parking and timing. In Alsace, we adapt on the fly: head straight back, or add a short detour to Bergheim for a 20‑minute stroll on the walls before returning.
