From Bath, it’s 13 miles via the B3109 and A350 to Lacock, then another 8 miles on the B4039 to Castle Combe, set in the Bybrook valley at roughly 330–490 ft. Expect honeyed limestone cottages, a medieval bridge and market cross, and—just beyond—the post‑war Castle Combe Circuit built on a former RAF airfield. Lacock Abbey, founded in 1232, charts early photography through William Henry Fox Talbot, while its streets doubled for Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. Further south, a Wiltshire pub rounds off the day with proper pies and local ales.
