From Dijon’s lively market halls to the hush of dry-stone walls, the Route des Grands Crus unfolds across 60 km of delimited climats. Cadoles punctuate the slopes, Clos de Bèze nods to Chambertin, and each parcel speaks in exposure and pruning dates rather than adjectives. The Cistercian landmark, Château du Clos de Vougeot (12th–16th c.), anchors the route. Village by village you read the gradient and taste the subsoils: limestone scree near Fixin, richer clays around Vosne. The IGN map turns, quite literally, into a tasting notebook.
Your driver sets the pace of the cellars: hotel pick-up in Dijon at 9:00, a dedicated Mercedes at your disposal, flexible stops, and secured appointments while you taste. From Gevrey it’s 15 minutes to Marsannay; about 12 km to Vougeot, then barely 10 to Nuits-Saint-Georges. If Beaune is on the plan, expect 35 minutes back via the D974. With a private chauffeur in Burgundy, you save daylight between pours and keep a clear head to compare a 2017 premier cru with its 2019 sibling.

Your chauffeur’s tip
To dodge coach groups, reach Clos de Vougeot at opening (around 9:30 in season) and start upstairs at the long-lever press; the room reads better before 10:00.
