Just after 9 a.m., leaving Evian, the water lies like glass while your Mercedes glides along the D1005; to the right, drying nets at the Port de Rives, to the left, slopes tilting up toward Publier. The road threads through Thonon-les-Bains—spot the 1908 funicular lifting from the station to the shore—and on to Yvoire, fortified since 1306. Stone gates, ivy-laced lanes, and the Garden of Five Senses set the tone, and the village’s medieval role controlling traffic between Geneva and the Chablais suddenly feels tangible.
From there, logistics fade away: hotel pick-up in Evian, car at your disposal, and a driver handling access and timing. You wander while he waits by the Nernier gate, then sit down to lake perch at a terrace by the pier, before looping back via Marin’s vines, 6 km from Thonon, to taste local Chasselas and Mondeuse blanche. The route is flexible—photo stop at the Ripaille overlook, a quick detour to the Cachat spring—and you return to Evian precisely on your schedule.
