In 1716, Cosimo III drew the first boundaries for Chianti Classico. Today the ridge lines between Greve, Panzano, Castellina, and Radda sit at 400–550 m, a patchwork of sangiovese vines, cypress rows, and silver-leafed olives. The Black Rooster on the capsule isn’t marketing fluff; it certifies origin born from a Florence–Siena rivalry. You’ll meet the old SR222 Chiantigiana, Romanesque gems like Pieve di San Leolino, long macerations, and Slavonian oak. Two currents run through the glass: muscular gran selezione, and higher-elevation cuts shaped by galestro and alberese soils.
Collected at your Florence hotel, you travel in a Mercedes with your driver on standby the entire day. You taste, they handle the tight lanes and parking in Greve (30 km, about 50 minutes) and Panzano. The outline stays flexible: two pre-booked historic estates, lunch at Dario Cecchini’s butcher temple or a farmhouse table in Castellina, and a quick photo stop at Radda’s belvedere when the light cooperates. Return via the SR222, or loop through Gaiole if northern crus are calling.
