A gentle slap of water against the dyke, briny air, and a flamingo balancing on one leg among glasswort: that’s your first look at the Salt Road linking Almanarre Beach to the Pesquiers salt pans. Around 10 am the low light skims the ponds first engineered in the 1600s for salt harvesting, while kites launch across the narrow isthmus under a channeled Mistral. Carry on past La Madrague, then the pocket-size Port du Niel—laid out in the early 1900s—before climbing to Giens village for a wide view of Porquerolles and Port-Cros.
Here’s how it works: hotel pick-up in Hyères, then a smooth Mercedes at your disposal with a dedicated driver for four hours—cool cabin, chilled water, no parking stress. You ride; you taste an old-school tarte tropézienne in La Madrague; you walk ten minutes on the dyke to spot avocets without spooking them. It’s roughly 6 km from Almanarre to Niel with photo stops and free time; if the wind kicks up, we tuck into the pines near Cap de la Vielle. Back to Giens hilltop in time for sunset.
