Zakopane and the Tatras

Stepping off the Gubałówka funicular, you catch resin on the breeze and the smoky crackle of grilled oscypek. Across the valley the Tatra skyline runs from Kasprowy Wierch (1,987 m) to faint Slovak ridges when the air is clear. Zakopane is more than a postcard: Witkiewicz’s Zakopane Style shows in the spruce houses along Kościeliska, while Krupówki is already humming by 9 am with cheesemongers and leather workshops. In winter, Wielka Krokiew’s ski jumps nod to meets dating to 1925; in summer, Kościeliska Valley trails open with first light.
