Back in 1973, before the Vanoise Express was even on the drawing board, Montchavin still moved to the rhythm of summer transhumance; tourism lodging only took hold after 1975, reshaping the village yet leaving its barn-houses intact. Today, La Plagne unfolds across ten distinct sites from 1,250 m to over 2,000 m: Aime 2000’s modernist “liner” blocks by Michel Bezançon, car-free Belle Plagne up the slope, and the tight lanes of Champagny-en-Vanoise. Between them, little-known pullouts frame Mont Blanc—try the Route des Frasses or the Forcle pass when the midday light turns glacial blue.
