Savoyard evening in the village

In 1795, the young French Republic started taxing reblochon from the Aravis, a small clue that cheese was already a serious trade between Le Grand-Bornand and Annecy. That same cheese, still matured today at 850–1,000 m around the village and Chinaillon, gives local fondue its velvety glide. Between the onion-domed church and centuries-old chalets in Les Outalays, dinner can be rustic and seasonal: snow outside in winter, cowbells in summer. It’s a 7 km hop along the D4 from the village to Chinaillon, a route your Le Grand-Bornand private driver knows by instinct, even after dark.

Your driver collects you from your hotel or chalet in a spacious Mercedes and stays on hand for the entire evening. Reservations and timing are handled; you’re dropped right at your chosen table—Ferme des Frasses, Auberge du Croix, or Chez Sam in Chinaillon—while you linger over a three-cheese Aravis fondue, farmhouse reblochon tartiflette, and local charcuterie.
