In August 1480, the Ottoman siege of Otranto shaped the town’s memory; the 800 townspeople later canonized as the Martyrs of Otranto rest in the cathedral, where you’ll also find Pantaleone’s 12th‑century floor mosaic mixing King Arthur, beasts, and biblical scenes. Just beyond, the Salento shoreline reveals pale limestone coves and Aragonese watchtowers. From Lecce, the SP366 reaches Otranto in about 40 minutes before winding past Grotta della Poesia and Porto Badisco, a mooring spot already cited by Virgil.
Your day starts at your Lecce hotel, where your dedicated driver meets you in a Mercedes and stays on hand throughout: you explore while they handle the driving, you taste while they wait. The plan flexes to your pace, with quick city stops and longer coastal pauses. In Otranto, the cathedral and Aragonese ramparts are easy on foot; farther along, Torre Sant’Emiliano and Baia dei Turchi sit 10–20 minutes apart by car. With lunch reserved right on the Adriatic, expect sparkling seafood and time left for a dip in natural sea pools.
