A peppery waft of rhododendron follows the gravel path at Sofiero while the Øresund light skims the old glasshouses and the terraces laid out under King Gustaf VI Adolph. Sixty-five kilometers from Malmö, this former summer residence still showcases hybrid rhododendrons first trialed here in 1907. North in Båstad, Norrviken’s geometric vistas play against 1920s architecture; to the east, Vittskövle’s vast red-brick Renaissance manor holds its moat and gallery of portraits. Between the Baltic and the Kattegat, Scania unfolds estates, orchards, and wind-brushed backroads.
Collected at your hotel in Malmö, you travel with a dedicated driver in a Mercedes, the car on standby throughout the day. The flow is easy: two unrushed hours at Sofiero, a smoked-fish lunch at Höganäs Saluhall, then Norrviken for an hour and a half or Vittskövle after a 1h15 drive from Båstad, while your driver handles parking and timing. You tour and taste; he drives and waits at the gate. If weather turns, switch to Trolleholm Castle or a coffee stop in Mölle, just 25 minutes from Sofiero.
