Mondello and the Capo Gallo reserve

The tang of sun-warmed seaweed lingers by Mondello’s painted wooden bathing cabins, survivors of the 1913 Liberty-style pavilion on stilts. Water shifts to turquoise at the foot of Monte Pellegrino, rising to 606 meters, and the pale sand actually squeaks underfoot. A short hop away lies the Capo Gallo reserve: chalky trails, juniper, and cliffs dropping to coves where divers frequent the Secca della Formica reef.
