In 1682, the Baroque theatre inside Český Krumlov Castle received a timber stage machine so intact it can still be operated today—one of Europe’s rare survivors. Wrapped by a tight loop of the Vltava some 170 km south of Prague, the town layers time within a short stroll: St. Vitus Church’s Gothic vaults, the Rosenberg era’s mansions on Latrán, and the castle’s Mannerist court. From the Cloak Bridge lookout, rooftops stagger toward terraced gardens; in winter the river breathes mist, in summer rafts brush past old mill wheels.
Your driver collects you at your Prague hotel in a polished Mercedes, seats set just so, then heads south on the D3—about 2 h 30 with a coffee stop in Tábor if you like. On arrival, the private chauffeur in Český Krumlov handles drop-off near Latrán 50 and stays on call: while they drive or wait, you tour the castle, step into the Egon Schiele Art Centrum, then linger over lunch by the Vltava. Later, stroll the Baroque gardens, perhaps detour to Holašovice (UNESCO, 24 km), and return to your door by evening.

Book the castle’s Baroque theatre tour at least 48 hours ahead and aim for a late‑morning slot; the side light makes the period stage machinery easier to see.
