A low Atlantic rumble climbs the cliffs, with the briny scent of kelp and gorse crushed by the wind. Between Socoa and Hendaye, the Basque corniche reveals contorted flysch layers—geology exposed like pages—best read from the Sainte-Barbe and Bordagain lookouts. Your eye runs to the Deux Jumeaux sea stacks, broken from the shoreline in the 19th century, while Antoine d’Abbadie’s Observatory (built 1864–1884) stands sentinel on its headland. You’ll pass WWII bunkers, a few pottok ponies in open pasture, and then the wide, sheltered Hendaye Bay unfolds.
Collected at your hotel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, you settle into a Mercedes while your dedicated driver eases along the 12 km scenic road: photo stops at key viewpoints, a short tidal walk onto the flysch slabs, and, time permitting, a self-guided visit of Abbadia. You taste, visit, and wander; we handle traffic, parking, and timing. A seafood pause in Sokoburu for ttoro or chipirons fits neatly before looping back via Ciboure past Maurice Ravel’s birthplace (about 2 km from the port) and one last angle on Socoa’s breakwater.
