Covering roughly 42,000 hectares of sculpted ridgelines and cypress alleys, the UNESCO-listed Val d’Orcia frames Pienza and Montalcino south of Siena. You’ll cross 500–600 m crests, pass chalky biancane, and spot the petite Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta set against barley fields. In Pienza, Pope Pius II’s “ideal city” (1459) unfolds along Corso Rossellino; in Montalcino, stony slopes raise thick-skinned Sangiovese Grosso destined for Brunello, matured a minimum of two years in oak.
Collected at your Siena hotel, you relax while your Mercedes glides between villages; timing stays flexible, and we tweak stops for the best light. First, Pienza in about 75 minutes for the Duomo and Palazzo Piccolomini while your driver handles parking, then on to Montalcino for a curated tasting. With a private driver in the Val d’Orcia, time stretches nicely between San Quirico d’Orcia, sunset at Vitaleta, and the Triboli cypresses, as bottles rest safely in the trunk.
