Palladian villas of the Brenta

A damp scent rises from the Brenta banks, olive-green light shimmers on the water, and cool stucco breathes under columned loggias. Between Mira and Stra, Palladian villas line the canal like a measured score: the austere Villa Foscari “La Malcontenta” (c.1559), the monumental Villa Pisani in Stra with Giambattista Tiepolo’s 1762 frescoes, and Villa Widmann with its playful garden pavilions. These houses tell of Terraferma grain wealth and the social theatre of villeggiatura. Distances are short here: Mira to Stra is roughly 8 km, about fifteen minutes along the canal.

From there, the day runs smoothly: hotel pick-up in Venice, Mercedes on standby, and a timetable that flexes as you tour and taste. You step through the gates while your driver handles parking and waits discreetly. Begin at La Malcontenta, continue via Mira to Stra, and break in Dolo for cicchetti and a glass of Raboso while the driving is taken care of. Expect about 40 minutes from San Marco to the first stop, then 10–20 minutes between villas.
