Back in 1731, the oldest working windmill at Zaanse Schans was already spinning, part of a waterfront of timber workshops strung along the River Zaan just 17 km from Amsterdam. Each structure had a job: a sawmill, an oil mill, a pewter workshop, a cheese room. This is where wind power industrialized the region in the 17th century and fed Amsterdam’s shipyards. Forty minutes later, canals take over again: from the quiet Begijnhof to the Hermitage Amsterdam, the city shifts back to museums and brown cafés.
Your Mercedes is at your disposal from hotel pickup to evening drop-off. With your private driver in Amsterdam setting the pace, you can pause for a De Kat photo, linger at the Zaans Museum, then roll into the Jordaan while they handle parking. Taste aged Gouda and a warm stroopwafel in Zaandijk, then visit the Anne Frank House or the Rijksmuseum without transit hassles. Total flexibility: swing by Albert Cuyp Market if the sun shows, or cap the day with a late canal stroll.
