High on the limestone ridge, stone and wind; below, groves and mills: the shift is immediate. The medieval stronghold of Les Baux rises to 245 m, once hardened by Raymond de Turenne in the 14th century, while the nearby quarries—mined for bauxite from the 19th century—now stage immersive art at Carrières de Lumières. A short drive away, the Alpilles reveal fragmented parcels of AOP Vallée des Baux-de-Provence: aglandau for bite, salonenque for softness, verdale for balance. Twisted trunks tell of mistral and goblet pruning.
Collected at your hotel in Arles, you travel west in a cooled Mercedes with your driver on standby for about four hours, timing set to your pace. Drop-off by the citadel (roughly 30 minutes from Arles), free time for the ruins or the show, then a glide along the D27 to Maussane for an AOP tasting at a working mill. Add, if you wish, a stop at Daudet’s windmill in Fontvieille, 12 km further, before heading back. With a private chauffeur in the Alpilles, you bypass peak-season parking and local restrictions.

Your chauffeur’s tip
In summer, book an early Carrières de Lumières slot before 10:00: shorter queues and softer post-show light for the Les Baux viewpoints.
