In 1919, Sir Cecil Chubb handed Stonehenge to the nation for £6 and a handful of securities, insisting it remain publicly accessible. That gift still shapes how we approach this Neolithic monument aligned to the solstice, raised around 2500 BC on the Salisbury Plain. Departing Bath, the route tracks the A36 and A303 for roughly 60–65 km, skirting barrow cemeteries like Normanton Down and passing long cursuses and ditches—features most visitors barely register until you point them out on the map.
Your Bath-based private chauffeur collects you from your hotel at your chosen time: Mercedes on standby, smooth ride, water and chargers ready. While you visit the Stonehenge outer circle, we then swing by Woodhenge and Durrington Walls just 10 minutes away, before heading 15 km south to Salisbury for its 1220 cathedral and a Magna Carta exemplar. Lunch near the Market Place or along Fisherton Street, then a scenic return via the Avon Valley and, if light allows, Bradford-on-Avon. The car waits at each stop, and timings flex with weather and crowd levels.
