Five nautical miles separate Port-en-Bessin from the Longues cliffs, and at roughly 35 meters above the sea the Pointe du Hoc bites into the Channel. Between these markers, the Bessin unfolds as a patchwork of dry valleys, wetlands, and hedgerows. Slip along former towpaths, pass cider orchards, and catch sight of half‑timbered manors around Vaucelles and Colombiers‑sur‑Seulles. Trawlers steam in around 4 pm with scallops in season (AOP, October to May). Granite at Port‑en‑Bessin meets plateau limestone: the contrast is plain from the Commes clifftop road.
Your day starts in Bayeux with hotel pickup at 9 am and a Mercedes at your disposal until 6 pm. First stop: Port‑en‑Bessin, 10 km away, for the quay market, then on to Longues‑sur‑Mer to explore the preserved German battery and casemates. You taste cider and farm‑made Camembert while your driver handles the roads, waits, and adapts the timing. In the afternoon, drift inland through sunken lanes to 17th‑century manors, mills on the Aure, and photo pauses in wet meadows. If the light softens, we loop back via the D6 for hedgerow panoramas.
