It’s a 94 km drive via the D572 and A84, rolling through Bessin hedgerows and the bay’s polders before the 156 m spire appears above the sands near the Châteauneuf bridge. The abbey tells its story in layers: the 13th‑century Merveille, abbot’s lodgings, and ramparts raised after 1424. Tides here are among Europe’s fastest, pushing up to 15 km/h, which shapes access. Since 2014, a causeway has restored the island feel; at high tide the rock is ringed by water again.
Your Bayeux driver collects you at the hotel in a Mercedes and stays on hand all day. We roll to the bridge and stop where it matters: the Caserne lookout for photos, timed entry to the abbey, a walk on the walls, or a guided crossing of the sands if tides align. While parking and tide charts are handled for you, taste pré‑salé lamb or buckwheat galettes on the Mont or in Beauvoir. The return is flexible: loop via Avranches and its Scriptorial or pause in Pontorson, depending on your pace.

Your chauffeur’s tip
Book an abbey entry slot around 11:00–11:30: the side light flatters the cloister and you skip the 10:00 shuttle crowd surge.
