Bern along the Aare, by evening

Amber light skims the Aare as the Zytglogge chimes and the arches of Nydegg Bridge glow before dusk. From the Rosengarten terrace you see Bern’s loop of medieval streets, roughly 6 km of arcades, while the Federal Palace dome clicks on one hue after another and the Marzili river baths empty out. Choices set the tone for the evening: the baroque vaults of Kornhauskeller, Michelin finesse at Meridiano in the Kursaal, or a quiet pint at Altes Tramdepot above the BärenPark.

From there, logistics disappear. Collected at your Bern hotel, you ride in a recent Mercedes with your driver on standby all evening, adjusting the route as you eat, wander, and slip down to the river lights. It’s ten minutes from Rosengarten to Bundesplatz, another five to the banks at Marzili, with a photo stop by Kirchenfeld Bridge if the Alps show.
