On 21 September 1446, William St Clair laid the foundation stone of Rosslyn Chapel, intended as the choir of a grand collegiate complex that was never completed. Just 7.5 miles from Edinburgh, its carved capitals tell dense stories: the helical “Apprentice Pillar,” curious corn motifs some argue predate 1492, and a ceiling of frozen-stone stalactites. Further south the Borders open onto 12th‑century monastic ruins and Abbotsford, Walter Scott’s self-fashioned house that helped cement a romantic vision of Scotland across Europe.
Collected from your Edinburgh hotel, your Amani chauffeur whisks you first to Rosslyn (about 20 minutes), then down to Melrose 34 miles away, before continuing to riverside Abbotsford. You tour at your own pace, sip tea while the driver handles parking and timings, and he keeps the car close for easy hops. The afternoon swings back along the East Lothian coast via North Berwick and sea cliffs, with flexible photo stops and waiting time included, returning to the city by early evening.
