At 9 am the mist lifts off Lake Titisee, oars whisper across the dark water, and the distant Höllentalbahn hums toward Hinterzarten. Spruce lines the shore, a 2 km footpath skirts the lake to the Seebad, and cafés are already cutting thick slices of Black Forest gâteau. A short drive brings the granite arches of the Ravenna railway viaduct (1885) into view, while to the north Triberg’s cascades tumble a total of 163 m. This is a landscape written in timber, clockmaking, and rail.
From there, your day runs smoothly: hotel pickup in Freiburg, a Mercedes at your disposal, and a driver who handles roads and parking while you stroll Titisee’s promenade, tour a cuckoo-clock workshop in Schonach, or sit down to smoked trout on the Gutach. You set the pace, your itinerary flexes. Distances are easy in the High Black Forest: about 35 minutes to Titisee (30 km), 15 more to the Ravennaschlucht, then roughly 45 minutes to Triberg, with photo stops along the way.
