On 24 June 1084, Bruno of Cologne settled in a stark alpine hollow: the Grande Chartreuse was founded, and a code of silence spread its influence across the range. Today the Guiers Mort carves through limestone gorges, passes rise to about 1,300 m, and hamlets keep their bread ovens and stone-slab roofs. Between Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, Saint-Laurent-du-Pont and the Cirque de Saint-Même, you’ll skirt the crags of Mount Granier (1,933 m), cross cool beech woods, and trace streams once harnessed by monastic mills.
Your driver collects you in Grenoble and handles the mountain roads while you tour, taste and look. Start at the Musée de la Grande Chartreuse in La Correrie, pause in the park’s gorges and villages, climb to the Col de Porte viewpoint, then head to Voiron for a guided tasting at the Caves de Chartreuse distillery. The vehicle remains at your disposal, stops flex to weather and pace, and most transfers run 30–45 minutes, with roughly 25 km between Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse and Voiron.
