Back in 1883, engineer Émile Reynier drafted the daring line for the Bourne Gorge road, later carved into the cliff between Pont-en-Royans and Villard-de-Lans; you still drive it today, inches from the void through tunnels and overhangs. A short hop away, Choranche Caves reveal hair-thin aragonite soda straws and a glassy underground lake. Higher up, the Vercors High Plateaus—strict nature reserve since 1985—rise above 1,500 m. Scale shifts here: limestone karst, wind-swept passes, occasional ibex, and uncommon silence less than 1h15 from Grenoble.
Your day runs smoothly: hotel pick-up in Grenoble, a spacious Mercedes at your disposal, unhurried pace. We trace the Bourne cliffs, pause at viewpoints, tour Choranche while your driver waits, then climb via Saint-Nizier with sweeping views to Belledonne. Lunch is booked at a mountain inn in Corrençon or Rencurel—Trièves cured meats, Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage on the table. With our private chauffeur in the Vercors, you link balcony roads, photo stops, and short walks without worrying about parking.
