On 31 March 1944, Allied aircraft dropped roughly 45 tons of weapons onto the Glières plateau to sustain the maquis holding out at over 1,400 m. Today, just 35 km from La Clusaz, that same high meadow frames Gilioli’s stark 1973 monument, wartime information boards in the clearings, and traces of the hamlet once tied to Morette. In winter, about 30 km of Nordic tracks loop among alpine chalets; in summer, gentians fringe peat bogs while the skyline pulls your eye to La Tournette and the Jalouvre.
Collected from your La Clusaz hotel, your Mercedes driver takes the scenic road via Thônes and Entremont in about 50 minutes. First stops: the Maison du Plateau and the national necropolis, then Gilioli’s Monument before a signed walk toward Pas du Loup. You explore and, time allowing, taste local persillé de Savoie at Gaec des Follieuses while the driver handles parking, timing, and waits on site. A flexible return can include a detour to the Morette bridge and the Resistance museum.
