Back in 1870, the Lisbon–Cascais railway turned the Estoril shoreline into a cosmopolitan resort, drawing Portugal’s court and later Europe’s displaced royals. Today the Marginal traces 25 km of shore forts from São Julião da Barra to Cascais Citadel, with Atlantic surf exploding at Boca do Inferno. After about 3 p.m., the light sharpens the cliff’s strata, and on a northwesterly wind the swell rises at windsurfers’ haunt Guincho Beach.
We collect you from your Lisbon hotel and keep the Mercedes at your disposal, so you can pause at Praia da Duquesa, step up to Santa Marta Lighthouse, or run the 7 km to windswept Guincho. Lunch in Cascais is all about the day’s catch with ocean views, then the drive threads the shaded N9-1 across the Sintra hills in roughly 25 minutes. With a dedicated driver timing the coastal run to dodge traffic, you sightsee while we handle the wheel and the waiting.
