Metz and the Centre Pompidou-Metz

Head south on the N57 and A31: it’s a precise 65 km from Luxembourg City to Metz, crossing the Moselle valley onto the Lorraine plateau at roughly 170–190 m elevation. The Gothic Saint-Étienne Cathedral holds 6,500 m² of stained glass, including three groups by Marc Chagall installed between 1958 and 1968. A short walk away, Metz’s Imperial District around the 1908 station shows off Prussian-era stonework, while, near the old Roman amphitheatre, the Centre Pompidou-Metz by Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines weaves laminated timber beneath a hexagonal roof for rotating headline shows.
