Back in 1905, crews for the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro fixed a maintenance catwalk to the cliff to service the water channel linking Guadalhorce and Gaitanejo; King Alfonso XIII crossed it in 1921, sealing the name Caminito del Rey. Rebuilt in 2015 with timber walkways pinned some 100 m above the Guadalhorce, the 7.7 km route runs past the Gaitanejo and El Chorro gorges. Expect wind funnels, circling griffon vultures, and banded limestone walls—plus clear traces of Andalusia’s early hydro-engineering at every bend.
This half-day starts from your Málaga hotel: pick-up, then the MA-20 and A-357 for roughly 60 km, before the climb via A-343 to Ardales. Settle into a Mercedes, at your disposal; you control the pace while your driver handles timed entries. Drop-off at the North Access by El Kiosko in Ardales, a self-guided walk, then pick-up at the South exit in El Chorro for a smooth return. With a locally seasoned private chauffeur, you can slip in a quick coffee stop in Álora as he deals with roads, parking, and schedules.

For best light in the southern gorge, aim for a 10:00–11:00 entry; book tickets 7–10 days ahead in peak months and choose the North→South direction to keep the wind at your back.
