Just outside Montpellier, the Mercedes glides along the D17; by 9:45 a.m., a first pause at the Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers lookout frames the north face of Pic Saint-Loup (658 m) and the Hortus cliff. Wild thyme and juniper ride the breeze. Your guide talks Jurassic limestone, cool nights, and the Séranne winds—facts that tighten tannins and keep Syrah fresh. Between low stone walls you’ll spot goblet-trained vines and small harvest crates, a sign of careful sorting and clean, controlled macerations.
The plan stays flexible: hotel pickup in Montpellier, car at your disposal all day, and you taste while we do the driving. We’ll tailor two or three estates, for instance a revealing contrast—Château de Lascaux in Vacquières (25 km, AOP Pic Saint-Loup since 1990) followed by Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup in Saint-Mathieu (concrete vats, some foudre aging). A vintner’s lunch is arranged on site, then we loop back via Claret and Valflaunès, with an optional stop at the Vine Conservatory to browse heirloom varieties if time allows.

10:00 — tour and tasting at Château de Lascaux in Vacquières, with a deep dive into soils and blends (1 h 15).

12:30 — vintner’s lunch at the estate or the Valflaunès bistro, regional food and wine pairings (1 h 30).

2:30 p.m. — tasting at Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup, then return via Claret with a stop at the Vine Conservatory if open; back in Montpellier around 5:30 p.m.

Your chauffeur’s tip
