Tegelberg and the Königswinkel lakes

From above, blue ribbons of lakes slice across the Allgäu; from below, the Tegelberg walls tower over forest and Neuschwanstein. The cable car climbs to 1,720 m, and the terrace becomes a map: Forggensee (12 km², a 1954 reservoir), Alpsee tucked beneath Hohenschwangau, the pale strip of Schwansee, and, farther north, Weissensee. A remnant of the 1936 Olympic ski jumps still anchors the mountain’s sporting story. On clear days, the Zugspitze pops into view some 40 km away.

What follows is an easy half-day with hotel pick-up in Füssen or Schwangau: a Mercedes at your disposal, stops timed for good light, towels on hand if Weissensee warms past 20°C. In Bavaria, your private chauffeur handles Tegelberg tickets, waits while you loop the lakes (Alpsee, Schwansee, perhaps Hopfensee ten minutes away), and drops you for strudel at Café Seerose or a short walk along Alpsee’s southern shore; you savour the place, while they drive and flex the distance (2 to 15 km) to fit the season.
