On 10 August 1714, Intendant Basville formally recorded the reputation of Tavel’s pale “clairet” wines at court; a century later, Frédéric Mistral was still praising them. Here on the right bank of the Rhône, rounded river stones and sandy safres shape structured rosés, while Lirac’s breezy terraces yield generous reds. It’s roughly 28 km from Nîmes to Tavel via the D999; Lirac lies another 12 km north, gazing across to the Rhône and distant Mont Ventoux. Two neighboring AOCs, two precise styles, small cellars, and growers often committed to organic farming.
Your private driver in Nîmes collects you at the hotel, then you ride in a Mercedes at your disposal for the half‑day: flexible timing, backroads if you wish. We’ve arranged two seated tastings in Tavel and Lirac, a vigneron lunch in Tavel, and—time allowing—a quick viewpoint stop at the Castellas. You taste and tour cellars and plots; they handle the driving, wait at each stop, manage bookings, and keep your purchases cool between visits.
