Trade Nîmes’ limestone and arena buzz for reed beds, salt pans and ruler-straight canals around Aigues-Mortes. The 13th‑century walls raised under Louis IX read like a field manual; the Tour de Constance keeps watch, while the salterns blush pink thanks to Dunaliella salina. Out by the Tour Carbonnière, the marsh still guards the medieval access, and further south the Espiguette stretches a 10‑km ribbon of shifting dunes marked since 1869 by its lighthouse. Expect flamingos, grey Camargue horses and, now and then, the little salt train at work.
Your day stays flexible: picked up at your hotel in Nîmes, you ride in a Mercedes with your dedicated driver, adjusting the pace between photo stops, site visits and sandy tracks. While they handle the road, you sample orange‑blossom fougasse, sip a glass of vin des sables near Le Grau‑du‑Roi, then head to a manade for a guided ferrade or bull sorting demo. If the mistral blows, focus on ramparts and saltworks; if it’s still, extend to the Espiguette and its dune fences.

Your chauffeur’s tip
For the brightest pink ponds and active flamingo flocks, aim for May–June or early September, and book the 10:00 saltworks tour for low, flattering light across the pans.
