Take the D1091 that snakes up the Guisane valley from Briançon (4 miles) to Le Monêtier-les-Bains (8 miles farther) and you read the terrain like a book: 250 km of pistes spanning 1,200–2,800 m, with larch woods, combes and high ridges linking Prorel, Villeneuve and Monêtier. The plan is simple and satisfying—start in Chantemerle, traverse via Cucumelle, dip into shaded forest when the light flattens, and, if wind allows, tag Yret before rolling back toward Villeneuve. Locals set the tone on Luc Alphand; it wakes up the legs and the edges.
From there, the day flows because your driver is on call from your hotel: drop-off at first lift in Chantemerle, gear and bags moved between villages while you ski, eat, or even slip into the Monêtier thermal baths. In Serre Chevalier with a private chauffeur, you travel light and change plans mid-run—he tweaks routes, secures a 12:30 table at La Grotte, and meets you at the exact piste exit you point to.

Your chauffeur’s tip
Time a 8:30 start in Jan–Feb: lap the shaded Larch Forest while it’s crisp, then cross Cucumelle after 11:00 when the sun softens the pitches toward Monêtier.
