Leaving Lugano, it’s a 45 km run west via the A2 and Route 13 over Monte Ceneri (1,040 m): the northern shore of Lake Maggiore opens up with Losone’s vineyards and Ascona’s palm-fringed promenade, a microclimate boosted by the föhn. The lakefront piazza faces the Brissago Islands, known for their subtropical garden launched in 1885 by Baroness St. Leger. Locarno lies 7 km further: arcades on Piazza Grande, alleys climbing to the Madonna del Sasso sanctuary (1487) in Orselina, and broad views towards Piedmont and the Maggia delta.
The day flows easily: hotel pickup in Lugano, a Mercedes at your disposal, and stops on your schedule while your private chauffeur in Lugano handles traffic, parking, and timing. In Ascona, stroll the promenade, then take a boat to the Brissago Islands for an hour of botany; lunch is best back on the waterfront. In the afternoon, tour Locarno—Piazza Grande, then funicular up to Orselina—before returning via the Monte Ceneri pass, a crossing used since Roman times. You enjoy; we do the driving.
