From Stavanger’s busy quays to the taut hush of the North Sea, the Nordsjøvegen strings together sand, stone and wind. Sola’s 2.3 km beach sets the pace, then the long protected dunes of Orre (status since 1977) take over. Farther south, Obrestad Lighthouse (1900) and the old fishing hamlet tell of life in gales; the slabbed rock fields of Jæren—muses to Kitty Kielland and Eilif Peterssen—lead you down to Egersund, roughly 75 km from town. It’s a lived shoreline, marked by low farms, drystone walls and passing rafts of eider.
In the Jæren region, your driver collects you at the hotel and keeps a Mercedes on standby all day: flexible stops, timing tuned to weather and light. Stroll the boardwalks over Orrestranda while parking is handled, tour Obrestad fyr and its small museum without clock-watching, then taste a fish soup in Vigrestad before following the 44 and 507 backroads toward Egersund. Distances are short, the driving local and attentive; you take in the view, someone else takes the wheel.

Your chauffeur’s tip
From March to May, reach Orrestranda before 10:00 to dodge afternoon winds and spot scoters offshore; in summer, aim for 19:00 for the best light on Jæren’s rock slabs.
