Back in 1860, engineer Antonio de los Ríos Rosas oversaw major irrigation canals that kick-started rice cultivation here, carving the green checkerboard you can still see from the AP-7. Ninety kilometers south of Tarragona, the Trabucador is a narrow spit dividing the Mediterranean from the Bay of Alfacs, where summer evenings bring flamingos sifting brine in pink light. Salt pans, the Migjorn lookout, and Buda Island trace a story of Ebro-borne silt—richer than the Rhône’s—and oyster rafts swayed by the garbí wind.
Your driver collects you at your Tarragona hotel and keeps the Mercedes cool and ready while you explore unrushed. First Deltebre, then Poblenou del Delta for grilled eel rice and bay-fresh oysters, with parking and bookings handled in the background. Around Riumar, pause at bird hides and the Garxal track, then roll out to the Trabucador when the tide suits. In the Terres de l’Ebre, you taste and wander; he drives, waits, and adapts.
