It’s a short hop from Val d’Isère: 7.5 km along the D902 to the Chevril dam, where the Isère has been held since 1952 and the painted “Géant” reappears when levels drop. Continue another 5 km and climb 300 m to reach Tignes le Lac at 2,100 m, facing the Grande Motte glacier and the Perce-Neige funicular. The road skirts the site of old Tignes, flooded in 1952, and passes viewpoints that tell the story of schist, moraines, and a high-altitude basin shaped by ice.
Your driver collects you at the hotel and keeps the vehicle at your disposal throughout. You explore and taste; he handles the road, the parking, and the timing. Walk the lakeside loop in about 45 minutes, then pause for photos over the Chevril wall before a coffee in Tignes le Lac—or a detour to Val Claret if skies clear over Grande Motte. In Val d’Isère, our private chauffeur fine-tunes stops to lift schedules and can secure a terrace table by the water.
