From Täsch it’s a smooth 30‑minute drive along Route 29 and up the Saas valley to a bowl of ice ringed by thirteen 4,000‑meter peaks, among them the Allalinhorn and the Dom. The Metro Alpin tunnels to 3,500 m and the revolving Allalin restaurant; below, larch and stone pine give way to ancient barns on stilts and a church tower from the 1500s—details that reward a second look.
